It was a perfect 32 degrees for Adam's
Freeze Your Thorns Off Virtual 5k. Met up with
100+ Patrick,
SuperKate and the tri club to run some single track at 7:30 this morning. Saturday is my day to sleep in, but I thought I would give the group run thing a try. It was actually pretty fun.
Cool time lapse video Patrick made can be seen here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brP-n-AGv6Y At 3:38 you can see SuperKate and me crawl across a frozen plank to cross a ditch.
We started off running over to the trail we built last weekend (that I never got around to blogging about). Last weekend it was nice to help the good folks from
GORC who build and maintain all the local single track.

Last weekend building a trail |

SuperKate and 100+ Patrick last weekend enjoying the free lunch we received |
After hitting up the new trail, we ran on some trails that I use to ride about 10 years ago before they closed them. They are some of my favorite trails and now I'm itching to hit them on the mountain bike. Lots of trail sections are very close to a ravine making it challenging.
There were a few slick spots including a wooden bridge we had some trouble with.

We resorted to crawling up this. |

Maybe I can pass standing up and become SuperMike |

Nope! |

We ran a total of eight miles in about an an hour and a half. Slightly longer than 5k and I'll blame SuperKate for that. She has trouble with directions and finding her way :-).
Thanks for letting us play along from Southern Illinois Adam!
Fantastic! I'm still waiting for my husband to get home and stay with kids to get in my 5K. How fun you got to hang with Kate and other great folks! I'm definitely going to have to head over to St L one of these weekends and join in!
ReplyDeleteAll o' y'all having so much fun almost makes me want to move to the Midwest. Almost.
ReplyDeleteYou had to beat me in the race AND in the race report race, huh? Awesome job! However am I going to follow up with my own. Anything I do will just be a pale imitation. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time! I'm really glad you made it out to run with us, even if you didn't help me out and be late with me. lol. Sorry I didn't get your pictures emailed to you...I took a nap. :)
Yeah, never ever ever ever follow Kate! You'll for sure be lost or doing extra miles or maybe even hiking up Mt. Whitney with a cooler of beer!
ReplyDeleteWell, glad you got in the virtual race in though, whew!!!
Hey...I heard that! :)
DeleteVery cool that you were able to work on the trail. A nice way to give back.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the virtual race!
How fun! Even the crawling part....well maybe not so much.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like the best time ever!!!!!!!!! it's been far too long since I've had to crawl over a plank....far too long ;)
ReplyDeleteSo cool you got to meet up with Patrick and Kate - remember she's a teacher and probably using the new math.
ReplyDeleteSounds great, that group running stuff. Need to try it.
ReplyDeleteI like the photos of your precarious bridge crossing!
ReplyDeleteThat bridge crossing looked pretty dicey! Glad you all came out alive!
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome, it must feel great to be a part of this wonderful project. You got some great pictures!!!
