Simplify

Things have been very busy and a bit stressful lately. So much so, I've felt the need to simplify things. I've stopped playing hanging with friends and words with friends (sorry sis), I've stopped trying to get eight work outs in a week and stopped stressing about not getting up before work to run. I've stopped trying to fit in a ride after work and haven't attended one extreme fitness class for this session, even though I signed up. Instead, I've been focusing on the simplest of the three triathlon disciplines, running. It's so nice to come home after a long day, change into some running clothes and hit the trail. No tires to pump, water bottles to fill, gym back to grab, etc, just put on the run gear and go.

This trail is right across the street from my house and connects to many other trails offering miles and miles of running and cycling trails.

Training mojo update:

Swimming = none. I haven't been swimming since my half ironman almost two months ago.

Biking = none. I haven't been biking in over a week. I do miss it.

Running has been going quite well. I've been ramping up the mileage a little and would like to get it up to 30 miles per week and keep it there for a while and see what happens. I have a half marathon coming up the third weekend in October and if my running holds up, I'll be in a good position to PR it.

My bike mojo looks like my mtb tire :(

My bike mojo is like my mtb tire

Speaking of simple, here is a really simple way to make some veggies.

Wash and dice the veggies, add a little olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. You can also add basil, rosemary, and/or thyme.

Throw them in aluminum foil and toss on the grill for 30-40 minutes on indirect heat.

Then enjoy!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Yeah, it so much easier to just get out and run. I have cut back considerably on my swimming and biking and have also been concentrating on my running since I began marathon training.

Those veggies look delicious!

Sorry things have been so stressful...I hope it all smooths out soon. Meanwhile, sounds like you're playing it smart and not making it worse for yourself.

I always said I would keep doing all of this stuff as long as it were fun. My perspective has changed overtime but I'm still having fun. Good move to simplify. I'm sure you'll work the other things back in when it feels right.

Still kind of struggling to find my various mojo's. Now I have a huge blister on my foot that I have to nurse. I agree about the simplicity of running - temps/wind aren't as big of issues, simple "equipment" and absolutely no tie to location. Literally walk out the door and go. Can't beat it - too bad I still don't "like" it.

That's what I love best about running - very little prep work! You'll get stronger for the last leg of the tri this way, too :).

I've been on my bike twice since my triathlon in early August...I just have zero bike motivation (nothing new there)...I keep thinking if I am away from it long enough I might yearn for it more. So far, that's not working - ha.

The veggies look great (minus the onions...not an onion fan!).

Some friends and I just signed up for the half IM in Boise (yes, I know...we'll freeze to death in the swim - whatever :)...come join us!

Those veggies look great! We just had chicken, squash (winter) and potatoes all cooked on the grill. It was fantastic.
As you know I cut out one swimming workout but I enjoy it too much to cut out both. I want to keep the biking as long as the weather lets me. I don't have a lot of excitement about running these days. It is the biking that draws me. I just signed up for a duathon in mid October so I have a reason to keep those two things going. Funnily enough I think I wish it did include swimming. Who would have ever thought?
Hope the running helps your stress. Life is busy these days.

Simplifying is always good! You'll get back to the other stuff when you're ready. Grilled veggies are the bomb.

o.k. so you know you got me with those amazing veggies, so easy and so yummy looking! They would also taste great over rice or pasta!

Good for you on the runs, sounds like you are really enjoying yourself!

It was refreshing to read your blog entry about lack of mojo. I can really relate to the simplicity of running --- roll out of bed, throw on shoes and some clothes and head out. No driving to the pool, no water bottles to fill and tires to pump...

I make veggie packets on the grill sometimes and they are really good that way!

I like to cook in aluminum foil too! I hope to do a little this weekend since we are camping in the redwoods. Looks yummy!
